If you told Phil Ivey at the beginning of the summer that he’d win two bracelets and have five cashes and only be in third place for POY, he’d have spit up his milk in your face. A quick peek at the top five:

Jeffrey Lisandro: 355 pts, three bracelets in three different stud variations, six total cashes

Ville Wahlbeck: 275 pts, five total cashes including a first, second, and third

Phil Ivey: 242 pts, two bracelets, five cashes

Brock Parker: 220 pts, two bracelets (back-to-back events), five cashes

James Van Alstyne: 220 pts, one bracelet, three final tables

As you can see, the competition for POY has been intense. Including the aforementioned, Roland De Wolfe, Vitaly Lunkin, Daniel Negreanu, and Daniel Alei are all in the top 15 and have been playing extremely well. We’ve already witnessed history more than once; with two weeks of poker still remaining, how many more records will be broken?

“NES gamepad mouse is the most amazing piece of industrial...

“NES gamepad mouse is the most amazing piece of industrial design in the history of humankind” - Engadget

Sick Note Fail (via Shipment of Fail)

Sick Note Fail (via Shipment of Fail)

Kotaku - The Konami Code Makes ESPN.com Magical!

Kotaku - The Konami Code Makes ESPN.com Magical!

California Online Poker Bill Details Spur Discussion | PokerNews.com

California Online Poker Bill Details Spur Discussion | PokerNews.com:
“The current draft of the bill that has been made public is in five sections, the first of which contains declarations of findings regarding the current status of online poker in California. Noting the existence of “2,300 Internet gambling websites operat[ing] outside of the United States” and arguing that “the presence, operation and expansion of offshore, unlicensed and unregulated internet poker sites available to Californians endangers the current and future economic health of California gaming establishments,” the case is made for regulation of online poker in California.

“The bill proceeds to note how the UIGEA has done nothing to curb Californians’ access to unregulated poker sites, and argues that since the UIGEA does allow individual states “to permit Internet gambling within their own borders under certain conditions,” the bill is therefore proposing a process by which such regulation can be pursued. This interpretation of the UIGEA may well prove one of several matters that will be debated by legislators subsequently considering the bill.”

Spike Lee’s Kobe Bryant Documentary Three Exclusive Clips...

Spike Lee’s Kobe Bryant Documentary Three Exclusive Clips (via BlackSportsOnline21)

"He knows when you get ‘em down, you stomp on ‘em,” Bird said of Kobe...."

““He knows when you get ‘em down, you stomp on ‘em,” Bird said of Kobe. “That’s why he’s always been my favorite.””

- LBJ-Wade not a rival revival in the classic sense - NBA - CBSSports.com Basketball

"Today, my parents, who are out of town but driving back tomorrow, called to see how I was doing...."

“Today, my parents, who are out of town but driving back tomorrow, called to see how I was doing. People always give Shaq a pass, but the guy is one of the most selfish individuals in basketball. Here are some highlights:

And at what point are we going to learn to accept this sort of idiocy and pettiness as a significant part of the overall package, and not something to be ignored? This isn’t a lion in winter situation. This guy was lyin’ in spring, summer, and fall.

I admire his accomplishments, the way he treats people (fans, lower-rung team employees, the many benefactors from his wonderful charity work) who don’t make millions off the NBA, but there’s absolutely no reason to act this childish. And worse than Shaq is our ability to forgive and forget. Not because we’re sporting WWJD bracelets, but because he makes us laugh. I’m just as bad as anyone, in this regard. I don’t wear the bracelet, but I tend to forget how nasty he’s been to people who don’t deserve it, just because he occasionally dances funny.

[…] It clouds our judgment. What image comes to your mind as soon as I say “Lakers, 2004”? Probably Kobe, newly-tattooed, chucking jumpers against the Pistons while dealing with the impending Colorado trial. You never think about Shaq showing up to camp completely out of shape, or whining about a contract extension all season.
