In his latest article, Clark Judge discusses the importance of arm strength in evaluating quarterbacks. He makes a valid point: you don’t need a monster arm to be a successful quarterback. But he loses me when he says that Chad Pennington is better than Michael Vick:
In fact, the next time someone tells you how far, say, a JaMarcus Russell or Jay Cutler can launch a football direct him to YouTube for the Vick commercial. Then ask which quarterback he’d rather have throwing the football for his team: Michael Vick or Chad Pennington?
Judge argues that winning is the best barometer and that Pennington, “was the starter on a playoff team.” Let’s compare. Vick went 38-28 as a starter, Pennington was 32-29. Vick advanced the Falcons to the conference championships, while Pennington never took the Jets beyond the divisional round. Vick appeared in 3 Pro Bowls, Pennington none. Hmmm. Looks like Vick is the clear winner here, Clark.
